Semiotic Review is delighted to announce the publication of a new article in "Images" issue by Big Dada (Enzo D' Armenio, Maria Giulia Dondero, Adrien Deliège, Alessandro Sarti): "For a Semiotic Approach to Generative Image AI: On Compositional Criteria"

This article explores the intersemiotic translations images produced by Generative AIs like Midjourney and Dalle-E through the collaboration of human and computational operators. Through a fascinating set of wide-ranging elicitation experiments with GenAI to track how verbal prompts render cohesive images, the authors show how databases, algorithms, prompts, and aleatoric elements act as discursive agents, where each image is the staging of a perspective on the world.    As always, thematic issues of Semiotic Review are open for new submissions! The Call for Papers for the "Images" issue can be found here. In this issue, issue-editors Meghanne Barker and Constantine V. Nakassis invite essays, articles, and book reviews for this special issue on the semiotics of images. For more information on how to submit to Semiotic Review, go here
